To host a tutorial seesion you need to provide
a number of things:- Location available for 2 days (+1 day installation) including:
- Lecture theatre to be used for the morning presentations (with beamer and network access
for online demo)
- Exercise room with a number of PCs on which the hands-on exercises can be run in the
afternoon
- The PCs can run UNIX or Windows since the students only use them to connect to a EDG
User Interface machine via ssh clients.
- The exercise room needs to have a good network connectivity
to the Internet (usually at least 1Mbps).
- One (2 or 3 depending on how many student PCs are available)
machine has to reserved locally for
running the EDG UI:
- These UI machines need to run GNU/Linux RedHat 7.3 (in the best
case 7.3.3 CERN version) and are used to ensure you don't need too much
network bandwidth.
- Local user accounts on the UI for each student.
- A system manager person to install the EDG UI and manage the local installation.
(We can help with that provided we get root access to the machine.)
- Creation of temporary certificates for each student via an existing EDG Certification
Authority. Usually, for tutorials our CNRS CA can create certificates
that are valid during the tutorial. We require to have the list of
participants (incl. e-mail addresses) about 2 weeks before the tutorial
session.
- DataGrid/LCG related personnel to give the presentations and help during the exercises
(we can help suggest names). These people should have already attended the tutorial
themselves to understand the material, issues involved and be able to answer questions.
- On-site printing of material to be given to students.
- Exceptionally, if the network infrastructure is not too good, we
can also install a full small scale testbed well in advance of
a possible event. This requires root access to at least 5 machines
(running RedHat 7.3). We have provided a software distribution (the
LCG-1 distribution of the EDG software) on DVD with manual installation
instructions. This is mainly done in co-operation with LCG.
We would need to know the possible location & dates well in advance. Please check
with us about suitable dates (to avoid clashes with other important EDG events.) We need
to leave at least 2 working days between session in order to correct set-up of the virtual
organization and complete tests.
